“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence. It is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare,"- Audre Lorde
For years, I have served as a useful source to those seeking inspiration, guidance, or advice. I finally decided to own that role and be intentional about it. I started writing about my passions, my thoughts, and curious wonderings about our world about four years ago . Now, as I have prepared myself through actively seeking the education and training needed to continue to heal others, I have transformed Naturally Jo into more than "just a blog".
As a caring and insightful therapist, I have always had a passion for discovering the beauty in all that I encounter. As a therapist, my goal is to help you uncover the beauty of what lies within, your true potential. I strive to equip my clients with the necessary tools to tackle the world one issue at a time. I work with teens, adults and couples providing a safe, affirming, non-judgmental space for healing and support.
As a humanistic and mindful therapist, I help clients gain a better understanding of their emotions and experiences through establishing a collaborative therapeutic relationship. I am actively engaged and interactive in sessions and offers a honest, compassionate and empathic approach to therapy. Finding a therapist that you feel comfortable with and connected to is important. Each session is catered towards the individual, to ensure that your therapeutic journey is one that is most helpful to you.
I have extensive experience working with clients from various cultural, spiritual, and religious backgrounds. I specialize in Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I work with transitioning adults, couples, and individuals seeking to better their lives but are having a hard time figuring out how. I can also utilize Prepare Enrich when working with couples. Prepared Enrich is a personalized assessment that helps couples increase relationship satisfaction for those seeking dating or premarital counseling.
As a young, Black therapist, I strive to help dissolve the stigmas and stereotypes of mental health care in Black and Brown communities. I also provide loving therapeutic support to individuals who have endured trauma through racially charged interactions and experiences. Using a culturally sensitive structure, I am open to discussing race, sexuality, spirituality, and how it affects our daily lives with clients seeking a safe space to talk about these topics. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and continuously work on educating and advocating for all.
In my spare time I enjoy baking, creating eclectic playlists, practicing yoga, blogging, and working on the podcast “The Mind over Matter Podcast”. I also enjoy writing and just released my first piece of work titled "Where I Have Been".
